Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), operating as Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), has announced the acquisition of Racing & Sport Network’s (RSN) radio broadcasting assets, marking a significant development in the world of racing. This move positions SEN as the exclusive audio broadcaster of racing in Victoria across all three codes, signifying a strategic shift in the industry landscape.
The agreement, set to be finalized on September 1, 2025, involves a substantial purchase price of $3.25 million, payable over three years. The acquisition from the Victorian Racing Industry (VRI), comprising Racing Victoria (RV), Harness Racing Victoria (HRV), and Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV), underscores SEN’s deepening commitment to the racing sector and its audience.
This purchase follows SEN’s recent collaboration with HRV through Rainmaker, its television arm, which secured a five-year production partnership to broadcast harness racing on Sky Racing. The integration of RSN’s assets into SEN’s audio and digital ecosystem is poised to enhance the delivery and quality of racing content not only in Victoria but also beyond, promising a more engaging experience for racing enthusiasts.
While there may be some programming adjustments post-acquisition, SEN is dedicated to offering a diverse range of tailored products for RSN’s loyal audience. Additionally, SEN will kick off the deal by simulcasting some initial RSN programming on racing.com, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in content delivery.
Craig Hutchison, CEO of Sports Entertainment Network, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for this new venture, stating that SEN is fully committed to revolutionizing racing coverage by catering to both ardent fans and casual listeners alike. He emphasized SEN’s eagerness to expand its reach and engage with a broader audience through innovative and captivating content.
RSN, with its rich history spanning a century, welcomed the partnership with SEN, viewing it as a pivotal step towards securing a vibrant future for the racing codes in Victoria. Aaron Morrison, a RSN Director and VRI spokesperson, highlighted SEN’s expertise, capabilities, and distribution network as key factors that led to the selection of SEN as the new owner of RSN. This partnership aims to preserve RSN’s legacy while ushering in a new era of growth and innovation.
The acquisition agreement is subject to standard conditions and regulatory approvals, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of racing broadcast and content delivery. The collaboration between SEN and RSN signifies a forward-looking approach to meeting the evolving needs and expectations of racing enthusiasts, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for listeners across various platforms.
As the racing industry continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between SEN and RSN pave the way for enhanced coverage, innovative content delivery, and a more immersive experience for racing fans. This acquisition sets a new standard for audio broadcasting in the racing sector, promising a dynamic and engaging future for racing enthusiasts across Victoria and beyond.
