Greyhound racing enthusiasts in Queensland are eagerly anticipating the commencement of trialling at the state-of-the-art track, ‘The Q’. The much-awaited trials are set to kick off this week, marking a significant milestone in the greyhound racing community. Racing Queensland has outlined the trial schedule, with sessions scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The Q has been hailed as a groundbreaking greyhound racing complex, poised to set new standards in the sport. The inaugural trial session at The Q is scheduled to run from 3-9pm on Tuesday, followed by additional trials on Wednesday from 7am-3pm and Friday at the same time. To ensure the smooth transition of greyhounds to the new venue, Racing Queensland has introduced specific requirements for nominations at The Q.
For a greyhound to be eligible for racing at The Q, it must undergo a “transition trial” to demonstrate its readiness for competition at the state-of-the-art facility. This trial includes essential criteria such as jumping from approved starting boxes, completing the race course, and entering the catching pen. These conditions aim to ensure the safety and preparedness of greyhounds before competing at The Q.
Commissioning trial sessions will be conducted free of charge for participants as part of the transition process to The Q. These sessions are not open to the public, with only essential personnel permitted to attend. The objective of these trial sessions is to familiarize participants and officials with the new venue and facilities before the official race meetings commence.
Following the completion of trials and commissioning sessions, picnic meetings are scheduled to be held at The Q. The first official race meeting at Q1 Lakeside is tentatively planned for Friday, April 4, marking a significant milestone for greyhound racing in Queensland.
