The Victorian Racing Club (VRC) has unveiled the racing dates for the upcoming 2023-2024 season, featuring 22 premium race meetings at the iconic Flemington racecourse. The season kicks off on August 1, 2023, and runs through to July 31, 2024, offering an exciting lineup of 10 Group 1 race days.
One of the highlights of the racing calendar is the renowned Melbourne Cup Carnival, a four-day extravaganza that begins with the prestigious Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on November 4. The carnival continues with the world-famous Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on November 7, followed by Kennedy Oaks Day on November 9 and TAB Champions Stakes Day on November 11.
A significant change in the Flemington race program is the relocation of the annual Resimax Group Rapid Racing meeting to a mid-week slot in December. Previously held in January, this event will now take place on December 20, just before Christmas, offering a unique pre-holiday racing experience.
Notable race dates to mark on your calendar include the standalone TAB Australian Cup Day, which saw great success in its inaugural year in 2023. This day will conclude the Flemington Racing Spectacular in March, starting with Australian Guineas Day on March 2 and culminating in Super Saturday on March 9.
Moreover, Flemington will continue its tradition of hosting public holiday meetings, with New Year’s Day Race Day on January 1 and ANZAC Day Race Day on April 25. The reduction of one meeting in the upcoming season aims to ease the workload on the Flemington course, ensuring the maintenance of a top-tier racing surface.
VRC CEO Steve Rosich expressed excitement about the new season’s race dates, offering 22 opportunities for racing enthusiasts to witness world-class competition and entertainment at Flemington. With 14 Group 1 races on the agenda, the season promises a blend of tradition and innovation.
Mr. Rosich highlighted the decision to move Resimax Group Rapid Racing to December, aiming to boost attendance and encourage end-of-year celebrations trackside. He emphasized the significance of maintaining the Flemington track to the highest standards, with scheduled maintenance following key race days.
The VRC is gearing up for the remaining five race days of the 2022-2023 season, anticipating guests to enjoy the winter months at the racing Headquarters.
