Greyhound enthusiasts in Queensland can rejoice as trialling is set to kick off at the state-of-the-art greyhound racing complex, The Q, this week. The much-anticipated commencement of trials has sparked excitement among owners and trainers in the region.

The Q, hailed as a groundbreaking facility in the world of greyhound racing, is gearing up for its first trial session scheduled to run from 3-9pm on Tuesday. Subsequent trial sessions will follow on Wednesday starting at 7am and Friday at the same time. Racing Queensland has outlined specific criteria for greyhounds to qualify for racing at The Q, emphasizing the importance of a successful “transition trial.”

For a greyhound to be eligible for nomination and competition at The Q, it must undergo a pre-nomination trial at the venue, meeting certain performance standards such as jumping from approved starting boxes, completing the race course, and entering the catching pen. This stringent requirement aims to ensure that only the most prepared greyhounds participate in events at The Q.
Commissioning trial sessions will be conducted free of charge to facilitate the transition to racing at The Q. These sessions, scheduled to commence this week, are restricted to essential personnel only, excluding public attendance. Picnic meetings are also on the agenda to familiarize participants and officials with the facilities before official race meetings kick off.

Following the successful completion of trials and picnic meetings, the inaugural official race meeting is tentatively slated to take place at Q1 Lakeside on Friday, April 4. The planned schedule reflects meticulous preparation and a strategic approach to ensure a smooth transition to racing at The Q.

Greyhound racing holds a significant place in the Australian sporting landscape, with a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. The sport has evolved over the years, with modern facilities like The Q symbolizing the ongoing development and innovation within the industry.
