Harness Racing Victoria is set to introduce a trial for two and three-year-old concessions starting on July 1. This move comes in response to feedback received during HRV’s March roadshows and discussions with key industry players like the Victorian Trainers and Drivers Association and the Harness Racing Advisory Council.
The trial period, scheduled to run from July through at least September 1, will grant 10-point concessions to two-year-old horses and eight-point concessions to three-year-old horses when they compete in races outside their age groups. Notably, these concessions will be granted regardless of the horses’ current ratings and will automatically adjust them to the base national rating level of 30.
However, it is important to note that these concessions will not apply in races specifically designated for two and three-year-olds or in races where other conditions dictate otherwise. Additionally, the concessions will only be valid for races conducted within Victoria.
Harness Racing Victoria intends to engage further with stakeholders, gathering feedback and insights, before making a decision on whether to permanently implement these concessions in the future.
