Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) has initiated its series of Roadshows, commencing in Mildura and set to continue in Melton, Ballarat, and Shepparton. The Roadshows aim to engage with the harness racing community and foster discussions on the past, present, and future of the industry.
The inaugural event in Mildura saw over 50 dedicated harness racing enthusiasts convene at the Mildura Harness Racing Club for a comprehensive two-hour session. The gathering commenced with opening remarks from HRV chair Bernard Saundry and a detailed presentation by CEO Matt Isaacs, followed by an interactive dialogue with the attendees.
During the session, HRV representatives delved into the historical trajectory of the industry, shedding light on revenue streams and operational challenges. They also discussed the current state of affairs, emphasizing the strategic changes implemented to ensure the sustainability of the sport. Looking ahead, the focus was on strategies to enhance relevance and boost revenue generation within the sector.
Participants, including racers, owners, volunteers, and staff, engaged in a dynamic 90-minute Q&A session, addressing specific challenges and opportunities unique to the Mildura region. Topics covered ranged from programming and ratings to wagering trends and avenues for volunteer involvement.
Matt Isaacs, the CEO of HRV, underscored the significance of Mildura in the Victorian harness racing landscape, noting its pivotal role as the inaugural stop on the Roadshow itinerary. The next stop on the Roadshow agenda is Melton Entertainment Park, scheduled for tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. The event will be broadcast live on TrotsVision, enabling broader access for stakeholders and enthusiasts. Subsequent Roadshows are slated for Ballarat on Tuesday, March 18, and Shepparton on Thursday, April 3, both starting at 7 p.m.
