Impending War, the undefeated two-year-old colt, is set to continue his campaign throughout winter despite spring aspirations from his connections. Following victories at Wodonga and Swan Hill, where he triumphed in the Elvstroem Classic, the promising colt is now aimed at three upcoming races at Flemington.
Syndicate manager Rob Slade, representing the Ben, Will, and JD Hayes-trained colt, expressed confidence in Impending War’s potential, emphasizing his untapped abilities. The colt is scheduled to compete in a 1400m VOBIS race at Flemington this Saturday, part of the Taj Rossi Series Heat 5, with further plans to target lucrative VOBIS races at the same venue.
Looking ahead, Impending War is expected to feature in the Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) on July 5 and the Byerley Handicap (1800m) on July 19, with the latter offering a ballot exemption into the prestigious Group 1 Victoria Derby. Despite initial thoughts of him being suited for the Caulfield Guineas, a gene test conducted by the Hayes team suggested that Impending War could potentially excel up to 2400 meters.
Slade commended the colt’s natural ability, noting that since being broken in, Impending War has displayed a promising talent that could see him thrive over longer distances. The upcoming races at Flemington will serve as crucial tests for the young colt as he aims to fulfill his untapped potential and possibly make a mark in elite racing circles.
Impending War’s performance in the Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill showcased his ability to compete at a high level, setting the stage for an exciting campaign ahead. With a string of races lined up, including the Taj Rossi Series Final and the Byerley Handicap, the talented colt is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive racing scene.
As the racing community eagerly anticipates Impending War’s upcoming races, his progress will be closely monitored to see if he can live up to the expectations set by his impressive performances so far. With a blend of natural talent and strategic planning, the colt’s journey through winter racing could pave the way for a successful future in the sport.
