Pride Of Jenni Emerges as Top Contender in 2025 Australian Cup Nominations at Flemington
The upcoming 2025 Australian Cup at Flemington has generated excitement with the nomination of the comeback mare, Pride Of Jenni, as the early favorite for the prestigious race. After a temporary retirement due to bleeding during the Group 1 Champions Stakes at Flemington, Pride Of Jenni made a remarkable return to racing by clinching a victory in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield.
Trained by Ciaron Maher, Pride Of Jenni’s stellar performance has positioned her as the frontrunner for the Australian Cup. Despite a narrow loss to Cascadian in the previous year’s Australian Cup, Pride Of Jenni is now leading the betting odds at $2.50 to secure victory in the upcoming event. Middle Earth, another contender trained by Maher, follows closely behind as the second favorite at $4.50 after an impressive win in the Australian Cup Prelude.
Chris Waller’s entry, Atishu, alongside Light Infantry Man and Zardozi, are among the top contenders at $6 in the betting odds for the Australian Cup. Atishu, a Group 1 winner at Flemington, displayed a strong performance in the All-Star Mile and aims to improve upon her fifth-place finish in the upcoming race. Light Infantry Man, previously third in the All-Star Mile, will be testing his capabilities over a longer distance in the Australian Cup. Zardozi, a three-year-old, will challenge the older horses after a commendable second-place finish behind Pride Of Jenni in the Peter Young Stakes and a victory in the VRC Oaks in 2023.
The Australian Cup has attracted 14 nominations, featuring notable contenders like Feroce, who seeks to become the first three-year-old to win the weight-for-age feature since 2013. Should Feroce emerge victorious, he will join the ranks of esteemed three-year-old winners of the Australian Cup, including Saintly and Dulcify. The nominations also include seven Group 1 winners, reflecting the high level of competition expected in the event.
As anticipation builds for the 2025 Australian Cup, racing enthusiasts are eager to witness the clash of top contenders vying for glory at Flemington. With the deadline for entries extended, the field is set to deliver a thrilling and competitive race day that showcases the best of Australian horse racing talent.
