Queensland Harness Racing Duel: McMullen vs. Dawson Heating Up

In the world of Queensland Harness Racing, a fierce duel is unfolding between two top drivers: Pete McMullen and Nathan Dawson. These seasoned drivers have been dominating the driver’s premiership in Queensland for some time, and the 2025 season is proving to be no different as they battle it out for supremacy.

The recent weekend saw McMullen and Dawson locked in a neck-and-neck race to reach 50 wins for the season. The competition between them was evident as they each secured a driving treble on Saturday night, following their double wins the previous night at Albion Park. McMullen took an early lead on Saturday with a commanding victory aboard Dele Row, setting a blistering pace. In a subsequent race, McMullen guided Rylee Rhayne Bow to victory, outpacing Dawson’s Chynchilla. Dawson, determined not to be outdone, fought back by winning the remaining three races of the night, showcasing his skill and determination.

Meanwhile, the Graham Dwyer stable has been making waves with a strong performance this season, claiming a metropolitan double at Albion Park. Luvbite and Not As Promised, both progeny of Betting Line, have been standout performers for the stable. Luvbite, driven by Layne Dwyer, secured a comfortable victory, while Not As Promised continued his winning streak despite starting with a handicap.

The Ben Battle stable also had a successful week, culminating in a metro double on Saturday. Megs Boy, a promising four-year-old, impressed in his debut race, with Nathan Dawson expertly guiding him to victory. Joans Rising Star and Ohana Dancer, both trained by Battle, also triumphed in their respective races, showcasing the stable’s skill in preparing winning horses.

Looking ahead, Redcliffe will kick off the week with a Monday night meeting, followed by fixtures on Wednesday night and Friday afternoon. The week’s highlight will be the Team Teal Cup on Wednesday night, featuring lady drivers competing for top honors. The racing action will continue at Albion Park with a series of races, including the Jim McNeil series heats on Friday night and the Saturday metropolitan fixture.

As the Queensland Harness Racing season unfolds, fans can expect more thrilling races and intense competition between top drivers like McMullen and Dawson, setting the stage for an exciting and unpredictable season ahead.
