Betterthancash, an emerging Kiwi pacer, has secured a spot in the prestigious $300,000 Rising Sun field, set to take place in New Zealand. The anticipation was high as the Chariots Of Fire winner Bay Of Biscay and stablemate War Dan Buddy were originally scheduled to fly to Brisbane for the event, but trainer Emma Stewart made the decision to withdraw them along with Harold Smith from the Albion Park meeting.
Trainer Stacey White expressed delight at Betterthancash’s inclusion in the Rising Sun race, emphasizing the significance of having top contenders like him in the field. The Rising Sun race, exclusive to three and four-year-old pacers, will feature another strong New Zealand contender, Rubira, trained by Mark and Nathan Purdon.
Rubira, a three-year-old, holds the second favorite position at $5.50 and will start from barrier three, while Betterthancash’s odds improved from $12 to $8 after securing a spot in the race. Betterthancash’s recent performance at Menangle against Pinseeker left the new trainers, David and Stacey White, impressed and optimistic about his prospects in the Rising Sun.
New Zealand’s representation in the Rising Sun extends further with Bet N Win, a trotting hopeful from the same stable as Betterthancash, favored to win his first heat. Additionally, Oscar Bonavena is set to compete in another trotting heat against London To A Brick, offering an exciting lineup for the Kiwis at Albion Park.
Notably, Jonny Cox-trained Pinseeker will also have a shot at accumulating early points in the pacing series from gate three. The Rising Sun Consolation race will see the talented filly Captains Mistress as the favorite, benefiting from the absence of Betterthancash and Jacks Ultimate Fury who have secured spots in the main event.
The anticipation for the Rising Sun event is palpable, with a diverse field of contenders from New Zealand poised to make their mark on the prestigious race. The inclusion of top pacers and trotters adds an extra layer of excitement and competition, setting the stage for a thrilling showcase of harness racing talent.
